S prefers to draw his own picture and colour it than to colour in printed colouring sheets. As for colouring sheets, he prefers realistic-looking cars to colour, rather than cartoon-looking ones.

Drawing at a children camp

26 - 28 November 2010

To get my kids them occupied while my hubby and I conducted the Lotus Bloom Children Camp in SBS Taiping, I got them to draw on a large flipchart paper.

Intense concentration. He holds the marker pens just like an artist.

S drew this fire truck. The other drawings around it were drawn by other children.

His favourite vehicle is a monster truck -- a truck with big, huge wheels. Frankly, I hadn't known about the existence of monster trucks before I had children. He learnt about monster trucks in his "My Big Truck Board Book". He also loved to watch youtube videos on monster truck racing and doing their stunts. He will draw monster trucks crashing into smaller vehicles, that he has seen on the videos.

Monster truck with the sun and the moon.
For some strange reason, he thinks the moon is black. Perhaps it is because he saw the pictures of the new moon in a book and wants to draw a new moon.

Painted using tempera paint on a large flipchart paper. Notice the smaller vehicles in comparison to the monster truck.

Coloring a book

September 2009
Artwork by S: 3 years old

Here is S with his pre-reading book that he has colored every single page with oil pastel. It covered all the drawings in the book and it was difficult to see the pictures beneath.

At this time, he hasn't started drawing yet. Merely coloring.
