Painting on flipchart paper

24 Sept 2010
Artwork by S: 4 years old

S is painting a car on flipchart paper.

Watch the video here:

Not satisfied with just one piece, now, he's painting vehicles with flashing lights.

And a third piece. He decided to create some patterns on his own.

A UFO, pizza, clock, who know what this represents? It doesn't matter. What matters is that he enjoyed himself while creating the artwork.

Drawing cars that "bite"

December 2010
Artwork by S: 4 years 3 months

S drew these cars with teeth, which I believed was influenced by the children storybook, "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang".

Drawing 3D race cars from youtube

5 December 2010
Artwork by S: 4 years 3 months

Recently, S he started to draw 3-dimensional cars. After watching youtube videos of cars, he wants to draw 3D cars, and would pause the videos and draw the car.

He also asked me how to spell "race car" and then he would write out the word on the paper. He has now started to name the vehicles that he has drawn. This has gotten him motivated in learning to write and understand words by naming the vehicles that he has drawn, instead of the conventional way of teaching young children to write, by rote practice, without any interest or the heart being involved.

October 2010

S drew this gondola after returning from Petrosains Discovery Centre. To get into Petrosains, we had to sit in a black bubble shaped gondola which travelled upwards along a track and brought us up into the centre.

Drawing a Tram

Artwork by S: 4 years 2 months
26 November 2010

We visited the Taiping Zoo and went aboard the tram there. After the zoo visit, S immediately drew this tram in the car along the way to our destination. He couldn't remember the full details, so I showed him the picture of the tram on my digital camera. He even drew a chair in the middle "carriage".

Drawing monster truck and car

S prefers to draw his own picture and colour it than to colour in printed colouring sheets. As for colouring sheets, he prefers realistic-looking cars to colour, rather than cartoon-looking ones.
